Oceanolab: the first research laboratory open to the public!

This unique mediation space consists of bringing together scientists and citizens around marine ecology research projects in the context of climate change, pollution and the erosion of biodiversity that we know today.

In 2026, THE ALCID PROJECT (ALGAE, CLIMATE, INVASIVES, DIVERSITY)

Océanolab, the first research laboratory open to the public at Océanopolis in Brest! The ALCID project (Algae, Climate, Invasives, Diversity) is a new experiment presented in 2026.

“How will Breton seaweed, and the living organisms that depend on it, react to climate change?”

At Oceanolab , scientists will seek to answer this question by studying two threats to these ecosystems: the IPCC’s projected temperature increase of +2°C by 2100, and the presence of an invasive species, sargassum, unintentionally transported through aquaculture activities. Come and meet the researchers!

  • Open daily from April 11 to May 3, with continuous activities from 10am to 12pm and from 2pm to 4pm, included in the Océanopolis admission ticket.
  • Suitable for all audiences
